May through June 2010 activities

Social Media PD Event

On May 19th I attended a college sponsored professional development event on ‘creating your niche with social media’.  Tools covered included  Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogs and YouTube.

While I am familiar with and make use of all of the above tools, the most valuable part of the eminar was the information shared on how different generations use social networking tools. It became clear that the millenials, those born between 1980-1995 (or 2000),  have some very different demands from their colleges. They tend to spend more time on the Internet then they do watching TV.  See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at7i8xh19pw&feature=fvw

Songhees Meeting

On May 5, 2010 those of us teaching at Songhees this last term met with staff members to discuss partnership plans for the fall term.

We heard a need expressed for career preparation for Songhees members. Many are looking for jobs over the spring and summer. Some find they lack the essential skills required, even for entry level positions.

My schedule development proposal for 2010-11 fits in with these expressed needs. See  SD Proposal Form 2010-11 MartinRevised.
